A ski day at Northstar California is a lot more enjoyable when you know where you're parking before you head out the door.
Northstar has several parking options, and the best one depends on when you're visiting, how many people are in your car and whether you want to pay for a spot closer to the Village.
If you're staying with us and planning a Northstar ski day, here's what we'd tell you before you go.
Where Can You Park at Northstar California?
Northstar's main winter parking options include Village View, Castle Peak and the Preferred Paid Lot.
The biggest thing to know is that they don't all work the same way. Some parking is free, some requires a reservation, and some costs more in exchange for getting you closer to the Village.
Here's how we'd break it down.
Village View Parking
Village View is a convenient option if you want to park relatively close to Northstar Village without paying for preferred parking.
During Northstar's current published winter parking program, Village View requires a reservation during the morning parking period.
Parking costs $20 per vehicle for cars with three or fewer occupants. If you arrive with four or more people in your vehicle, parking is free — but you still need to make a reservation.
Later in the day, Village View becomes free and no reservation is required. Northstar's current main parking information lists that time as after 11:30 a.m.
Local Tip: If you've got four people heading to the mountain together, take one car. You'll qualify for free Village View parking with a reservation, and fewer cars heading toward the Village is a win on a busy ski morning.

Castle Peak Parking
If you don't mind parking a little farther away, Castle Peak is the easiest free option.
Castle Peak parking is free every day and doesn't require a reservation. On weekends, Northstar operates a continuous shuttle between the Castle Peak lot and Northstar Village, with service running until 10 p.m. under its current parking program.
This is the option we'd keep in mind if Village View reservations are gone or you simply don't want to worry about making one.
Give yourself a little extra time to park, grab your gear and take the shuttle up to the Village.
Preferred Paid Parking
If convenience is your priority, Northstar also offers a Preferred Paid Lot closer to the Village.
Under Northstar's currently published rates, preferred parking is $25 on weekdays and $50 on weekends and during peak periods.
Preferred parking becomes complimentary after 3 p.m.
Is it necessary? Definitely not. But if you're carrying kids' ski gear, running behind on a powder morning or simply want the shortest trip possible between your car and the Village, paying for the closer spot may be worth it.
Do You Need a Parking Reservation at Northstar?
It depends on where you park.
Village View requires a reservation during its designated morning reservation period. Castle Peak does not require a reservation, and Preferred Paid Parking operates separately.
Northstar also limits guests to five active parking reservations at one time. Once you've used one of your reservations, you'll be able to make another.
If your plans change, don't hang onto a space you aren't going to use. Under Northstar's current policy, parking reservations can be canceled for a refund until 8 a.m. on the morning of your reservation.
What About Peak Winter Dates?
This is one detail we'd check directly with Northstar before your trip.
As of September 2026, Northstar has not yet published its full 2026–27 winter parking calendar, and its website is still displaying information for the previous winter season.
Rather than listing old holiday dates here, we recommend checking Northstar's current parking information when planning your ski days. Peak dates can affect parking pricing, availability and how early you'll want to make your plans.
This is especially important if you're visiting during Christmas and New Year's, Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Presidents' Week or another busy winter period.
Accessible Parking at Northstar
ADA parking does not require a reservation and is available on a first-come, first-served basis for vehicles displaying a valid ADA placard or license plate.
Northstar recommends checking its current accessibility and parking information before your visit for the latest details.
Can You Skip Driving to Northstar?
Depending on where you're staying, absolutely — and on busy winter weekends, that's worth considering.
Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART) offers free regional transit around the Tahoe-Truckee area, with winter transportation options that can include service to Northstar. Because routes and seasonal schedules change, check the current schedule before your trip.
And if your group is driving, filling one vehicle with four or more people can make Village View parking free with a reservation.
Our Advice for an Easier Northstar Ski Morning
If you asked us how we'd plan it, we'd start with your group.
Four or more people in the car? We'd try for a free Village View reservation.
Don't want to deal with reservations? Castle Peak is your straightforward free option — just leave yourself enough time for the shuttle ride.
Want the easiest possible walk into the Village, especially with kids and all their gear? That's when we'd consider paying for Preferred Parking.
And if you're skiing later in the day, check the afternoon parking rules before paying for something you may be able to get for free.
Local Tip: Weekend traffic around Northstar can build quickly on good snow days. Even with your parking figured out, we'd rather arrive early, grab coffee in the Village and have a few minutes to spare than spend the morning watching the clock from the car.
