Donner Lake Rentals
Just west of downtown Truckee and minutes off Interstate 80, Donner Lake is one of the Sierra's most loved mountain lakes, and a quieter alternative to the crowds of Lake Tahoe. Roughly three miles of clear alpine water are ringed by granite peaks, pine forest and the historic Donner Summit. It's a true four-season destination: sandy beaches and paddleboards in summer, world-class skiing in winter, and peaceful, golden shoulder seasons in between.
Tahoe Truckee Vacation Properties offers a hand-picked collection of Donner Lake vacation rentals, from cozy cabins a short walk from the public piers to spacious lake view homes with hot tubs, decks and room for the whole family. Every rental is locally managed by our Truckee team, so you get the comforts of home with real people nearby if you need anything.
Summer is Donner Lake's busiest season, and for good reason. Spend the day at West End Beach swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking, or claim a spot on one of the many public piers along the north shore for a lazy afternoon on the water. Boaters can launch from the public ramp, and anglers come for rainbow trout, mackinaw and kokanee. On land, hike the trails of Donner Memorial State Park, ride the Pacific Crest Trail near Donner Summit, play a round at one of Truckee's mountain golf courses, then head into historic downtown Truckee for dinner and live music. A Donner Lake summer rental puts you right in the middle of it all.
Few Tahoe area neighborhoods are as well placed for a ski trip. Donner Lake sits at the base of Donner Summit, close to Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Soda Springs and Tahoe Donner, with Palisades Tahoe and Northstar California roughly 20 to 30 minutes away. Royal Gorge, North America's largest cross-country ski area, is just up the hill. After a day on the slopes, come back to a snowy lake view, a crackling fireplace and a hot tub under the stars. Planning a longer stay? See our available ski leases and holiday rentals.
The shoulder seasons are Donner Lake's best-kept secret. In fall, aspens and cottonwoods turn gold along the shore, the trails empty out and the water is perfect for a quiet morning paddle. Spring brings snowmelt waterfalls, wildflowers, great fishing and late-season spring skiing up on the summit. Lower rates and easier availability make fall and spring ideal for couples' getaways, remote work stays and long weekends.
