1. Eagle Rock Trailhead
The Eagle Rock Trailhead offers the perfect introduction to hiking in Lake Tahoe. The path is less than a mile there and back on a flat trail with minimal elevation gain. This short hike rewards hikers with incredible views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and lakes.
2. Shirley Canyon Trail
Shirley Canyon offers one of the most scenic hikes in North Lake Tahoe. This hike is five miles long, with several notable sights along the way. There are three waterfalls on the trail surrounded by expansive forests and blooming wildflowers. As you continue on the path, you will reach Shirley Lake before continuing to High Camp. Once you get to High Camp, you can take the Aerial Tram to the bottom to shorten the distance of your hike.
We have two properties available at the Shirley Canyon Trailhead where you can access this hike right outside your front door! Check out our Palisades Tahoe Condo 33 and Squaw Valley 420 properties!
3. Tahoe East Shore Trail
The Tahoe East Shore Trail is a newly created three-mile paved path along Lake Tahoe’s shoreline. This trail is ideal for families and those looking for a scenic walk without the difficult inclines. Stop and read the interpretive panels along the way to learn about the history and geology of the area.
4. Tahoe Rim Trail
The Tahoe Rim Trail offers the best access to the picturesque backcountry trails surrounding Lake Tahoe. This 165-mile trail travels through four national forests, three wilderness areas, two states, and one state park. Several day trip routes along the trail offer routes past alpine lakes, wildflowers, vistas, or waterfalls. Keep in mind that these backcountry trails can be quite challenging, and you should map out your hike well in advance.
5. Donner Summit Canyon Trail
The Donner Summit Canyon Trail is near Truckee and offers beautiful views and fascinating history. Some notable history of the trail includes the original Lincoln Highway, Native American petroglyphs, the China Wall, and the world’s first automobile pass. Besides interesting history, you can enjoy views of flowers, waterfalls, meadows, and Donner Lake while hiking this trail.
