Donner Memorial State Park features five beautiful snowshoeing trails. You can park and access all of the routes from the Emigrant Trail Museum. The Donner Lake Loop Trail is an excellent choice for beginners, where you can snowshoe flat terrain with scenic views of Donner Pass and Schallenberger Ridge. This park also offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the region’s historical significance at the Visitor Center.
Royal Gorge
Royal Gorge features over 50 km of designated snowshoeing trails in the North Lake Tahoe area. They have snowshoe rentals on-site and warming huts, so you can easily take a break from the trails. The trail routes will take you past old-growth trees and incredible views of the Northern Sierras. Royal Gorge offers some of the best cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the country, with 6,000 acres of terrain.
Northstar Snowshoe Center
Northstar may be known for its downhill skiing, but it’s also an excellent place to learn how to snowshoe. With 35 km of snowshoeing trails, lessons, tours, and equipment rental, they have everything you need to start exploring. Take in the stunning views of the mountains on the family-friendly trails.
